After several e-mails with Alexandra, she booked, via the internet the PADI Open Water Diver for herself and the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver for Reinier. I met them both at The Passage Samui Resort in Nathon the day before the courses started, as I like to do with all of our clients, to discuss the itinerary of both courses and to complete the relevant paperwork. Reinier was starting his Advanced Open Water Course with our PADI Professional Instructor Mann, and I was helping Alexandra achieve her Open Water certification at our teaching facility in Temple Gardens.
Whilst watching the PADI Open Water DVD and completing the quick quizzes Reinier had decided to take part in the Enriched Air Nitrox as part of his Advanced Open Water program. Completing the knowledge reviews, quick quizzes, and final exam it was time for lunch. After a traditional Thai lunch from the nearby restaurant it was time to go through the confined water part of the Open Water course. Reinier joined us as it had been a while since his last dive, and went through some skills and reunite himself with Scuba diving.
Our first day was to Sail Rock where Mann took Reinier for the first of his Adventure dives whilst Alexandra and I took in the beauty of the corals and marine life. Having tried Scuba Diving before Alexandra was a natural under the water, showing some great buoyancy control and looking very relaxed. After nearly an hour our first dive was over and the smile on both Reinier and Alexandra’s face as they reunited on the speed boat and started telling each other what they had seen.
The second day took us to Koh Tao where Reinier completed his Adventure dives and Alexandra her Open water Dive skills. The weather was great with smooth seas and brilliant sunshine, and Good diving conditions at both Shark Island and Aow Leuk. Smooth seas on the way back to Koh Samui put a fitting end to the day. After completing the paperwork and giving both Alexandra and Reinier their certification cards it was time to celebrate with ice-cream.
After taking both of them back to their resort Reiner asked if they could go out diving again and would call to arrange a day of diving before they went home. After confirming the date, we were on the speedboat once again to visit the stunning Chumphon Pinnacle. Again blessed with smooth seas to Koh Tao, we dropped off student divers to Mango Bay and then headed off to Chumphon. The conditions were great with over 25 meters visibility there was loads to see with hard and soft corals, moray eels, and fish everywhere. After a second dive to Twin Rocks which again was superb diving we were heading back once again to Koh Samui with Reinier and Alexandra at the front of the speedboat taking in the last of the sun before their return to the resort. It was a certainly fitting end to a great time diving and a great time for me with this lovely couple.
